Lake-Link's Ice Fishing Jamboree '07

By Jackie Vogen - March 1, 2007
Over 400 fishermen and ice fishing enthusiasts gathered for the 8th Annual Ice Fishing Jamboree on February 3rd, at Lake Lawn Resort in Delevan, Wisconsin. Making the trip up north from Illinois, I arrived late in the day and wasn't able to register in time to fish in the event; however, I might add that this was a blessing in disguise. The adverse weather conditions were an enemy to many of the winter anglers and despite the frigid temperatures and unforgiving winds, there were still many diehard fishermen that braved the elements. It was difficult to view all the ice shanties that were scattered across Lake Delevan because of the near blizzard like conditions, but there were many to be found. Although the fish weren't biting, many felt the weather conditions were a small price to pay for being amongst friends. I was impressed with their dedication. Even though the ice fishing wasn't as successful as previous years, I'd still have to say the weekend was nothing less than successful!

As I sat inside the warm cozy resort, with my cup of coffee in my hand, I had an opportunity to socialize in many conversations with anglers who had come in from the weather. I met two men, Dave and Jeremy, who shared many of their personal experiences on different lakes they've fished and we talked about fishing with kids. I believe this is an added bonus when I'm able to socialize with people who share in a common interest.

After a long day of fishing, everyone gathered for a spaghetti dinner, complete with all the fixin's. Friendly conversations and laughter could be heard throughout the room. Thousands of dollars in prizes were given away and many lucky winners were able to claim an engraved Lake-Link "Beaver Dam Tip-Up". http://www.beaverdamtipup.com.

The party carried over to the bar, where everyone was ready to "JAMBO ON!" Many of us not only had a thirst to discuss our fishing knowledge, but also a thirst for a few drinks, too. Lake-Linker's were toasting to a good year of fishing and celebrated the night away.

A special thanks goes out to Darin, Steve, Don and Mr. and Mrs. Novak for their efforts in the overall success of the Jamboree and to the staff and all the volunteers who contributed their time and help in making the day successful. A special thank you goes out to Chris, only 10 years old, for having the patience to stand for over an hour drawing the tickets for the prizes, (but was rewarded when he pulled his own name and won a Lake-Link "Beaver Dam Tip-Up"). A Big Thank You to Mrs. Perch for making all the delicious pies and to "Dspicabl" for making the cute "Tip-Up" pins.

The Lake-Link Ice Fishing Jamboree is one event you don't want to miss. Great people, ice fishing, dinner and prizes made this weekend a very memorable one. I'm looking forward to the "2008 Ice Fishing Jamboree". Thanks to all the Lake-Linkers for a great time! JAMBO ON!

We've raised two beautiful daughters, who are now grown up, and have left home. We've recently entered into a new stage in our life; we've become "empty nesters". This new independence has allowed me to discover my passion in life; I LOVE TO FISH! I'm what you would call a "Beginner Fisherwoman" or a "Novice". Besides fishing, I enjoy computers, gardening and photography. Through fishing and photography, I've been able to capture my thoughts, while surrounded in the beauty of the sport. I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with you!
