I'll be flying into Anchorage and staying the night to get up and drive to stay off Kenai river for a 7 nights (2 days fishing for halibut in the Cook inlet, 3 days fishing for Kinds and Sockeye in the Kenai river and one day off to mess about on our own, and no fishing the day we get there I guess)

We booked with Rod N Real Alaska https://www.rodnreal.com/

This will be my 1st trip there. Anyone have experience with theses guys?

Any questions besides the obvious I should ask them before leaving?

I'm not traveling with any gear we will use all the charters stuff (not crazy about not having one of my reel/poles I like with me) but ...

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Weather is looking good this week in Alaska. Leaving this Wed 6/8. Had a bit of a set back and have some minor back pain from Little league practice with my kids. Suck getting older when you can't even pin point where/when my back was hurt, lol

Thanks Reel!

LJ Walleye, I would love to share notes/pics/fishing reports when we get back. Sounds like a plan.

Ex-PFL, Great tip on the rental car as that was VERY expensive and a PIA to find/book and it was $2200 for the trip YOWSA!

we'll be there 6/7-6/17 so we will be all good on the KINGS! TY

Thanks for everyones suggestions they will help and is why I asked! Im worried it may be a bit much for an 83 year old  but he can rest as he always does on boats. lol He has sailed his whole life he will be fine on the boats. Im ready for some cold rainy fishing weather but hope its not 90 as it could be but its rare. I have some bibs, good rain jacket and deck boots so Im ready for the weather. Keep the tips coming if you have them as we sure appreciate it. I will meet with the team and see what questions we may have specific to Alaska fish on charters and DM you if any come up. Thanks again everyone.

Way to make a new member feel apart of the pack!

Dress for cold, rainy, rough conditions, and hope for better.   It's worth the full day trip for halibut.   I went out of Seward last July, had a blast.

Enjoy your trip MLB. I’m going up in July to Pybus Point Lodge.  They told us wear clothes you want to fish in because you’re gonna fish as soon as we get there!  Like to compare notes with you when we get back.  I bought a new waterproof, warm jacket.  I hope it’s not raining the whole trip.

Hello--Did a 4 day trip last year with my kids with Alaska Fish on. Great time, for sure. We added the fly-in, which was a real hit. A couple pieces of advice:

Book your rental car today, if you haven't already.

Check the regulations on the Kings, as you probably can fish for them, but no retention--if your dates slip into July. Bill is a 30+ year Kenai guide, and he was awesome.

They communicated very well, with instructions given the evening before via text, and a print out for each day when you check in. Very helpful.

Halibut fishing is a long day. I would recommend staying in Homer, if possible for that; otherwise, you'll have quite a bit of driving--especially if you have 2 days.

Consider the fly in. Great scenery, and a cool experience. The Salmon were stacked !

Looking back, I think I over scheduled us a bit..and we love fishing. We were pretty tired.

We shipped a box of bulky stuff in advance (Rain gear, boots, etc..) Dress warm, and expect cloudy skies 50deg weather and some constant drizzle. Accommodations were tight, but cozy. Give yourself a day to rest--you'll probably need it.

DM me if you'd like to chat live.

Sounds awesome MLB. I hope you and your dad and brothers have the time of their lives. Alaska is one big picture postcard every where you go so your in for some great sightseeing as well as the fishing. Make sure you post about your trip when you get back, I would love to hear about it.

6/7 - 6/17. As far as the reds go I was just going off of this from the site (pasted below). My father and brothers usually take a fishing trip (not every year but every few years but usually WI MN, or Canada.

My pops was just diagnosed with liver cancer and Alaska is where he wanted to go so we're going. He is 83 and doing pretty good since the diagnosis but the thought is there that this could be the last one so we're going out in style so to say.
