Guidedfishing said, "By the time they complete the test and notify you one way or another you are already 4-5 days plus at a minumum into your trip.  So in the remote chance you do come up positive and they are able to contact you, you just come home and your trip is likely near complete anyway, that is what I observed of the folks that were tagged and notified one way or another."

Sounds like that would work but if your test is positive and they are unable to contact you at your final destination in Ontario my guess is their CBP will flag you in their system and this wouldn't help your next effort to cross the border.  After crossing 30 times over many years and seeing how they operate, this wouldn't be a stretch.

Shellfish,  I crossed end of August with ArriveCan, I can tell you the ArriveCan is still in place.  As of 1 April you will not need a pre-arrival screening test.  If you go before that date you will need either a rapid test 24hrs prior or the PCR/NaaT test 72hrs prior.  The rapid test must still be performed by the pharmacy or lab/clinic self tests don't count.  But Like I said starting 1 Apr that is not required.

Right now with the ArriveCan you still have to upload your vaccinations 1 J&J or 2 of the other,  No third jab is required at this time.

As far as random tests yes still in play.  You don't take it at the border which is silly you get the random test and you have 24hrs to get on line with a Switchhealth nurse and perform the test and then drop at a purolator courier.  By the time they complete the test and notify you one way or another you are already 4-5 days plus at a minumum into your trip.  So in the remote chance you do come up positive and they are able to contact you, you just come home and your trip is likely near complete anyway, that is what I observed of the folks that were tagged and notified one way or another.

As far as quarantine plan, answer the ArriveCan questions, not a big deal at all.  If you somehow come up as positive and are notified you just come home.  Its really that simple.

Have any folks that have crossed the boarder (recently) filled out the (Arrivcanada) online info before you crossed?   Is it neccessary?

Also for boarder random testing.  If they do antigen test (quick test)  the incidence of false positive is high.  If they do pcr test,  3 to 4 day turn around, with good luck on locating you at a remote site.

I bet by the time my summer trip is planned.  Rules will be closer to what it us to be.

I just want to go fishing.

wife and I got the random test as well last august. fyi.. test is to be performed live on canadas health portal with a live dr/nurse or whatever watching and helping you thru the process. after test is complete, you need to contact purolater for them to come and pick up your tests to be delivered to a lab for testing and results. took us about 4 or 5 hours to get all this done at the resort we stay at. purolater could not get there for 5 days and told us to throw it in the fridge! never got or heard any results during our stay!

We got selected for a random test last August and never got results back until we returned home a week later. Test had to be mailed to a lab.

I am curious.  If they randomly test you at the boarder and you test positive.  You have not actually crossed yet.  Why wouldn't they just send you home?   The US boarder crossing won't stop a US citizen from coming home.

Unless this changes....I see the biggest issue as when the officer who interviews you at the border crossing asks you about the details of your required "quarantine plan" (for IF you are found to be positive in their random covid testing) and you must present a plan.  If you are randomly tested and the result is positive they will have you quarantine for 14 days.  Even if they don't test you, you still must tell them what your 14 day quarantine plan is.  Can be at a hotel, motel or your intended final destination BUT you cannot stay in the same room (or probably the same cabin) with fellow travelers unless you live in the same household AND you must have the means to have food or medication delivered to your quarantine location (you can't leave it for 14 days).  If you test positive in a random test and they don't approve of your quarantine plan, you are then placed in a government quarantine facility for 14 days.   And no matter if you pass all the sniff tests set forth by the Canadian government's regulations, the officer contacting you at the border crossing has the final say in whether they will let you cross.

The federal government will continue to randomly test travellers upon arrival in Canada to identify and track variants, the sources said.

Announced today that most remaining covid restrictions in Ontario including mandatory mask use in restaurants and stores is going away March 21. Assuming no further big outbreaks,  pretty well all covid restrictions in Ontario will be gone by the end of April.

That's Ontario ... nothing yet from the feds on border restrictions, test requirements, etc. Trudeau is too busy running around Europe posing for photo ops  at the moment, but it is expected the feds will reluctantly follow suit and also relax restrictions further by the end of April.

Fingers crossed!
